The I-201 was a submarine of the Japanese Navy during World War II. Since the beginning of the Pacific War, the anti-submarine capability of the Allies had improved, and the damage to Japanese submarines continued to increase. To combat this, the submarine type increased its speed while diving. The size of the hull is the same as the Lu submarine, but each part is designed to be streamlined to reduce underwater resistance, and any protrusions are devised to be stored as much as possible. By connecting batteries in series, the number of rotations of the motor was increased, and an underwater speed of 19 knots was recorded during testing; the cruising time at this speed was about one hour, and the ship was about 1 meter above the surface at that time, making it impractical. The I201 type was completed on February 2, 1945, and three ships, numbered up to I203 were put into service, but the war ended without them being used in battle.
The Ha-201 submarine was classified as small and high; its construction plan began in 1944 as part of the interception force in the decisive mainland battle. The development experience of the experimental high-speed submarine No. 71 and the instep target were utilized in its design. The Goryu and Kairyu that had been mass-produced for the decisive mainland battle lacked nautical and behavioral performance in the mainland waters, and the Ha-201 was planned to make up for this. Like the I201 type, it was designed to reduce underwater resistance, had a cruising range of 3,000 nautical miles, and was equipped with two 53cm torpedo launchers on its bow. The first ship, Nami 201, was completed in 1945, and ten ships of the same type were completed by the end of the war, but since they were preserved for the decisive mainland battle, the war ended without them being used in combat.
