Built by Vickers at Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom, the Sao Paulo was one of two Minas Geraes-class battleships ordered by the Brazilian Navy during the early 20th century. The Sao Paulo served dutifully for a number of years and saw numerous refits and upgrades over that period. She sank during a storm at sea in 1951 while on her way to being towed to England for scrapping.
