The USS Worcester, a light cruiser of the Worcester class, was commissioned in 1948 as the lead ship of her class. After commissioning, she was assigned to the 10th Cruiser Division and participated in fleet exercises in the Mediterranean and other regions. When the Korean War broke out in 1950, she was involved in escorting carrier task forces and providing gunfire support for landing operations. The Worcester received two battle stars for her service during the Korean War.
