The Reimei class is the largest patrol vessel of the Japan Coast Guard, which began service as a single helicopter-carrying patrol vessel, a development of the previous Akitsushima class.
Built as part of the reinforcement of the territorial sea security system, this class is capable of long-term activities in vast sea areas.
The first Reimei was commissioned in February 2020 and belongs to the Kagoshima Coast Guard Department.
