The Hyuga was built at the Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., the second ship of the Ise-class. An explosion occurred during training exercises at Iyo-Nada, and she had to leave her No. 5 gun turret behind, instead being equipped with four 25mm triple guns at that location.
