The Leopard 2, the main battle tank representing the modern German Army, has been in service since 1979, replacing the Leopard 1. The main gun has been upgraded from the previous 105mm gun to a powerful 120mm smoothbore gun. The turret design changed from the vertical front on early production models up to the A4 to the wedge-shaped additional armor from the A5 onwards.
The Leopard 2A7+ is a modernized version of the A6M, enhanced for improved mine protection with reinforced armor. It features modular armor on the sides of the hull and is equipped with an RWS (Remote Weapon System) on top of the turret, allowing for the remote operation of a 12.7mm machine gun from within the vehicle.
