Pit Road 1:700
Thirty-two Benson-class destroyers were commissioned as 1,500-ton class destroyers built under the 1938 plan as an improved version of the previous Sims-class destroyer. Reflecting on the lack of stability due to the Sims-class's heavy armaments, the number of launch tubes was reduced and the engine layout was revised for the Benson class, but they were still somewhat top-heavy. The first ship of the class, the Benson, was commissioned in April 1940. She was active in the Atlantic Ocean before the war, and moved to the Pacific Ocean in 1945. She was transferred to Taiwan in 1954, and remained active until 1975.
This kit from Pit-Road can be built as a waterline or full-hull version; a display stand is included for the full-hull version. Additional parts are provided for the bridge structure, turret, and life raft rack. Other Benson-class destroyers can be reproduced by combining the included ship number decals.
