The Scharnhorst was a German Navy battleship that went into service in January 1939, and its main gun was a 1934 28cm (54.5 caliber) gun with three units and nine guns in a triple turret. In the German Navy, the main turret was usually known as the A turret (Anton), the B turret (Bruno), C turret (Caesar), D turret (Dora), and the radio code (phonetic code) in order from the direction of the bow. The 1934 28cm (54.5 caliber) gun has the ability to deliver heavy armor-piercing shells weighing 315kg up to 40,000 meters at a maximum elevation angle of 40 degrees, and has a range of 20,000 meters for the British Navy's battle cruiser Renown class. It was able to break the side armor when approaching Queen Elizabeth-class battleships and Revenge-class battleships with a range of 15,000 meters or less.
