The F-1 is the first domestically produced fighter after the war, developed for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force to protect the sky of Japan. It was developed based on the T-2, the first supersonic advanced trainer developed independently in Japan. The first mass-produced aircraft flew for the first time in 1977, and started operation that year. From that point until 2006, it was active in the defense of Japan's skies for 29 years. It's equipped with two TF40-IHI-801A turbofan engines from Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries. It boasted a maximum speed of Mach 1.6, and was equipped with a 20mm Vulcan cannon. It could also operate various bombs and rockets. In addition, it could be equipped with the domestically produced ASM-1 air-to-ship missiles, demonstrating its high capabilities as a multi-role fighter.
This model kit of the JASDF's F-1 from Platz includes a pilot figure seated in the cockpit. The helmet and suit are delicately reproduced; the aircraft itself features accurately modeling of its distinctive sharp shape, carefully duplicated panel lines and landing gear. The cockpit interior is also modeled in detail, and is amazing when seen in combination with the pilot figure. Decals are included for the 3rd Squadron, with its familiar helmet warrior unit mark, and also for the 8th Squadron with its black panther insignia. The decals are made by Cartograf.
