With the world facing regional conflicts and international terrorism, the mission of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (J.M.S.D.F.) ranges from national defense, oversea missions, rescue activities and supplying U.S. and other allied forces. At the time with increasing need of international peace keeping operations, supply ships along with escort vessels have become of great importance.
2006 Dispatched to the Indian Ocean to accompany Escort Vessel Inazuma on anti-terror missions

2011 Operated joint rescue activities with the U.S. military in the aftermath of Tohoku earthquake
Construction began in 2003 by Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Maizuru. Commissioned in March 2005, she currently belongs to Replenishment at Sea Squadron 1 and is stationed at Port of Sasebo.
